‘Cancer Poverty’ – the severe financial burden associated with a cancer diagnosis affects at least 80% of the people who use the Something To Look Forward To service. People affected by cancer are often no longer able to work, are forced to work reduced hours and encounter increased travel costs and high hospital parking charges. This has been further compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic which people having to shield and families finances being reduced even further. We are responding to this crisis by delivering an Covid-19 Essentials Project to people affected by cancer poverty across the UK with essential items including clothes, shoes, food vouchers, toiletries, towels and bedding to offset the financial impact of their diagnosis. These are items that the clinical and voluntary agencies we work with have advised that people really need and we continue to work closely with these professionals to ensure we reach and support those that are in most need.

I have had to give up work and rely on the benefits system which is not very much. With very little money I can barely afford the essentials of food and monthly household bills. A new pair of shoes could not have come at the right time.

Thank you for your kindness.
